Durga Puja, the biggest festival for Bengalis

Durga Puja, also called Durgotsav, is an annual Hindu festival originating in the Indian subcontinent which reveres and pays homage to the Hindu goddess, Durga. Durga Puja for the Bengalis is much more than a festival. It is a carnival and an emotion that marks the time of happy tides. Families immerse themselves in this five-day gala of awesome food, pandal hopping, music, and cultural evenings and welcome Maa Durga back to her paternal home. It is the busiest time of the year at the Bengali Durga Puja organizing committees in the city. There are many customs and rituals that are followed during this festival that have a special significance.  Navratri or Durga puja is celebrated in many states on a larger scale but nothing can be compared to the excitement that the people of Bengal show up to this festival.
